No damage, no joke! These speak for themselves; specifically for THICK hair, they will not slip, and will not damage or tear your hair. There's no metal or rubber band feel; they're soft, flexible yet firm, and they seem to last forever. I got a 24 pack about a year ago and have still only gone through three or four! If you use the same tie repeatedly for months, the elastic will eventually stretch out; causing the tie to be expanded, but I wore the same one for about 3 months before it snapped! You can get these pretty much anywhere for $3-$4.
