Comfort Inn Arlington Heights, IL ⑥
I struggle with this review because I had such an amazing experience overall. My family and I stayed here multiple times a week for a couple of months; the rooms were spacious and clean, the complimentary breakfast had a large variety, they offered shuttle rides to guests, and so many of the employees (including upper management) were beyond friendly, courteous, and catering to our needs and desires. The overall experience was very pleasant and I would like to actually go back and speak to several of the managers that extended such kindness to me and my family.
There were however, two occasions that left a not-so-good taste in my mouth. One was during my morning time in the breakfast area; a male staff member sat down at the business center computer and began watching pornographic videos. We made eye contact when he came in, so he knew I was there, and I was in direct view of the screen. He proceeded to continue watching various clips with no regard for my presence or the presence of children coming and going throughout the lobby area. I understand not everyone sees this as inappropriate behavior; but it is my hope that Comfort Inn will at the very least see it as inappropriate conduct for their employees, while on the clock.
The second encounter was equally disheartening; leaving out all the details, it left me feeling slightly violated. We had been using the same credit card until our last visit when we used a different card. Each time the transactions went through flawlessly and there were no problems; but when one particular day manager saw the last bill had not been paid, he tried to resolve it with threatening and unnecessary tactics. The manager called my room and when I wasn't able to answer, he showed up with another employee at my door and barged in without any announcement. I was lying in bed listening to music on my headphones when I saw a man come bursting through our door and come towards me.
Long story short, I repeatedly told him to check his records again because I knew my husband had already taken care of the bill, but he wouldn't listen. Instead, he raised his voice; threatening me that if the bill wasn't paid in five minutes he was calling the cops because he was tired of us staying for free. I had already politely asked him to check his records about four times. About two minutes after he left, the phone in our room rang and it was the same day manager; he said, “It looks like your bill was taken care of; but he should have come and told me.” I politely told him thank you then he hung up on me.
It turned out the reason the card wasn’t approved was because whoever ran the charge, used the old card on file instead of the new one. I understand there may have been concern when he saw the bill wasn’t paid; but as I mentioned before, we had been frequent, repeat customers over several months with no problems caused in any way, and have always been paid in full. I firmly believe the aggression and threatening tactics were completely unnecessary. We were told by other staff that this particular employee is like that with a lot of their customers; why it hasn't been addressed is beyond me.
Aside from those two issues; most of the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, and the rooms and amenities were worth it!
